Sustainability is a subject that factors into nearly every action and initiative my colleagues, our company and I participate in every day. I’m sure that sustainability also plays a key role in driving the business decisions you and your company make.
But what exactly does the word “sustainability” mean?
Well, apparently, a lot of things.
The word which is derived from the Latin “sus-tinere” (pronounced sus-tin-a-ray), which means to hold up or uphold, now seems to have so many definitions it can make your head spin. It’s not uncommon for dictionaries in many languages to have 10 or more descriptions of what sustainability represents.
Nevertheless, there are some common threads across all these definitions, which generally refer to sustainability as being the intersection between safety, environmental care and economic progress.
As part of the team behind Mobil Industrial Lubricants, we take a similar view, and have developed a comprehensive strategy that we refer to as Advancing Productivity.
At its core, sustainability requires the most efficient use of resources¯human, environmental, and operational. And, when you think about it, achieving sustainable business practices is the ultimate balancing act.
Advancing Productivity defines how we apply our lubricant technologies, engineering services and application expertise to help companies enhance safety, achieve their environmental care-related goals, and maximize productivity.
Our Mobil SHC Club team is focused on providing insight into ways that you and your company can work to advance productivity in your industry. This month, we will be focusing blog posts specifically on safety as it relates to sustainable practices. We invite you to check in frequently with our people for ideas on how you can help enhance safety in your facility.
